Costa Rica is full of great beaches (as well as of course rainforests and volcanoes!). We at Pura Vida House are partial to the beaches of Hacienda Pinilla — some of the finest white-sand beaches, with activities like surfing, shelling, snorkeling, walking and relaxing.
3 Incredible Beaches in Hacienda Pinilla
At Pura Vida House, we know that the beaches of Hacienda Pinilla are some of the best in all of Costa Rica. Between the three beaches, you can have a private nearly-secluded white sand beach with palm palapas shading lounge chairs, a world famous surf break (Little Hawaii), snorkel, boogeyboard, or lounge at a high-end beach club overlooking the water from the comfort of an infinity pool with full tiki bar, restaurant, gym and spa.

Here are descriptions of the three beaches of Hacienda Pinilla that you will have access to when you stay with us at Pura Vida House, in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
Langosta Beach
This is personally our favorite of the three beaches of Hacienda Pinilla. It’s a beautiful white sand and long beach, great for taking walks, sea-shelling, jogging and also going in the water. You can go in the water for at least 100 yards and still see your feet! Langosta Beach feels like a private beach (even though in Costa Rica all beaches are public), due to Hacienda Pinilla owning the property surrounding the beach access. Sunsets at Langosta Beach are to-die-for! This is truly a hidden gem in Costa Rica!
When you use the entrance within Hacienda Pinilla, you will have access to some lounge chairs with palm palapas/cabanas, a rustic restroom, and not much else. On a good day, we see no other people at this section of the beach, and have the place to ourselves. One of the reasons Playa Langosta is one of the best beaches near Tamarindo, Costa Rica.
Avellanas Beach
Playa Avellanas, our next favorite of the beaches of Hacienda Pinilla, is another great white-sand beach for walking, shelling, jogging, swimming, and especially surfing. There are some world-class surf breaks at Avellanas, most notably Little Hawaii in front of the Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club, as well as areas and times of day with tamer waves for beginner surfers or boogey boarders.
You can enter the beach from the Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club, and also public access points like the one near world-famous Lola’s beach bar and restaurant, and all-around great hangout – in our opinion the best spot on the beach besides the Beach Club.
At the Beach Club, you have access to an infinity pool overlooking the pacific, full tiki bar, restaurant, gym and spa. Come here to feel pampered, spend the day and use it as your base camp from sunrise to sunset.
Here you can sit in the shade of palm trees with a local Costa Rican beer and some great food and watch great surfing, take a lesson, participate in a sunset pickup beach soccer game, or lounge in a hammock. We could easily spend the day here, or just come for sunset. This is a can’t-miss when you’re in the Tamarindo area of Costa Rica.
Lola’s is a 15 minute walk from the Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club for those fit enough. Note at high tide you may have to wade/swim across the estuary. Restrooms within Beach Club and Lola’s for customers. Playa Avellanas is definitely one of the best beaches near Tamarindo, Costa Rica.
Mansita Beach
Playa Mansita is not a well known beach, yet it has great attractions. It’s the beach where the JW Marriott Guanacaste is located. It’s not as long and flat as Avellanas Beach and Langosta Beach, yet it has nice white sand, and it has some nice snorkeling pools. It’s the only beach we know of at Hacienda Pinilla where you can snorkel.
It also has a nice roped-off area in the ocean for swimming, so you don’t have to worry about getting swept out to sea by a tide. This is definitely a little jewel, still relatively undiscovered … well … except for the Marriott guests!
